Before you become started

What you demand to back up photos & videos

  • Good net connection.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't exist backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that can be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos tin exist backed up if you lot use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If yous attempt to back up a file type non listed here, it may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared across multiple products like Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If yous have used all of your storage, yous won't be able to back upward new files.

There are ii ways to back upward your phone, photographic camera, or storage menu from your computer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Set up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you lot want to back upwards and thenSupport to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSalve.

Of import:

  • If you remove a photograph or video from your computer that you previously backed upwards to Google Photos, information technology stays in Google Photos.
  • If you lot remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Bulldoze or your computer.

Backup and Sync is now Google Bulldoze for desktop.

Select a different upload size

Yous tin can change the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Of import: You can't alter the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Support your Apple tree Photograph Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you can back up your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:
